The 8th International Conference on Business Research (ICBR 2025), themed “Empowering SMEs for Sustainable Economic Growth,” was successfully held on 8 December 2025 at the University of Moratuwa. The conference brought together local and international researchers and industry experts to share knowledge and promote high-quality research in diverse fields of business studies.
A proud moment for our university was marked by the Best Paper Award presented to C.M. Umesha Dhananjani Silva for the research paper titled “Applications of Sustainable Practices in the Maritime Logistics Sector,” under the track Social, Organizational, & Human Development Studies.
Notably, this award-winning research was supervised by our academic staff member, Dr. Chathumi Ayanthi Kavirathna, highlighting our university’s continued commitment to excellence in research mentorship and academic achievement.
Mishara Wickramasinghe, an undergraduate student of the Department of Industrial Management, has received the Best Paper Award in the Logistics and Supply Management Track at the 4th International Conference on Sustainable and Digital Business (ICSDB 2025) at SLIIT Business School.
The award-winning research paper, titled “A Systematic Literature Review on the Adoption of Blockchain Technology in the Global Logistics Industry,” was conducted under the supervision of Dr. Chathumi Kavirathna. The study explores the growing role of blockchain in transforming global logistics systems, highlighting innovation in supply chain transparency and efficiency.
Students from the Department of Industrial Management (IM) have successfully published and presented their research work at DRC 2025, marking a notable achievement in academic research and scholarly engagement.

Chamil Yahampath, a student of the Department of Industrial Management, has successfully presented his research at the IEEE 19th International Conference on Industrial and Information Systems (ICIIS 2025), held under the theme “Next-Gen Engineering for Industry 5.0.”
The conference took place on 16th – 17th January 2026 at the Faculty of Engineering, University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka, bringing together academics, researchers, and industry professionals from around the world.
Research Title: A Systematic Literature Review of Machine Learning Applications and Climate Adaptation Strategies in Sri Lankan Paddy Cultivation.

Vishath Amarasinghe, a student of the Department of Industrial Management, have successfully presented their research at the 10th International Conference on Information Technology Research (ICITR 2025) held at the University of Moratuwa.
Their participation at ICITR 2025 highlights the growing involvement of IM students in interdisciplinary research and their contribution to national-level academic conferences.
An engaging research discussion was held with experts Prof. Athula Ginige, from Western Sydney University and and Dr. Tamara Ginige, from WIDYA. The session showcased innovative projects transforming agricultural practices, including an Ontology-Driven RAG Framework for Intelligent Agricultural Advisory, Agent-Based Modeling for Yield Prediction, and crop yield optimization using Govi Nena App User Data.
A talented student from our department developed a predictive model for the apparel industry, using advanced neural networks to simulate and predict weekly production performance, reducing risks, optimizing schedules, and improving resource planning.
