The Department of Industrial Management is pleased to share that Dr. Chathura Rajapakse recently contributed to an AI skills development initiative conducted for 25 administrative officers of the University of Kelaniya. The programme focused on enhancing AI readiness through practical training and online learning resources, enabling participants to develop the knowledge and skills required to effectively engage with emerging AI technologies. This initiative reflects the University's ongoing commitment to digital transformation and capacity building as it embraces opportunities in the AI era.

The Department of Industrial Management, University of Kelaniya, successfully conducted a two-day hands-on workshop on Internet of Things (IoT) and Embedded Systems for A/L ICT teachers on 18th and 19th June. Facilitated by Dr. Keerthi Wijayasiriwardhane, the program combined theoretical concepts with practical Arduino-based activities, providing participants with valuable exposure to embedded systems and IoT technologies. The Department also acknowledges the support of Mr. Samoda Wijesooriya and Ms. Rajani Navoda in the successful organization of the workshop.

The Department of Industrial Management, University of Kelaniya, recently commenced a series of industry consultations as part of its ongoing curriculum review and enhancement process. The first consultation, held with DirectFN, brought together Department representatives Dr. Dilani Wickramaarachchi, Dr. Chathura Rajapakse, Dr. Amila Withanaarachchi, and Mr. Dinesh Asanka and industry professionals Mr. Satheeq Hassan, Mr. Lakshitha Surasinghe, Mr. Umesh Wanigasekera, Mr. Lahiru Prasad, Mr. Tharinda Hettiarachchige, Mr. Malidu Jayasundara, and Mr. Keith Abeyratne to discuss emerging trends and industry expectations. The discussion focused on Artificial Intelligence in software development, quality assurance, database management, cybersecurity, and the competencies required of future graduates, providing valuable insights that will help ensure the Department’s curriculum remains relevant, industry-aligned, and future-ready.

The Department of Industrial Management, University of Kelaniya, proudly congratulates the graduates of the Master of Data Analytics (MDA) 2024 Batch on their successful graduation at the University of Kelaniya Convocation 2026. The programme, which commenced on 30th March 2024, was completed by 39 graduates, including eight Merit Pass recipients, by 11th May 2025. The Department extends its appreciation to the Programme Coordinator, academic staff, industry experts, and support staff whose dedication contributed to this achievement, and warmly welcomes the graduates to the growing MDA alumni community.

The Department of Industrial Management, University of Kelaniya, recently conducted a Knowledge Transfer Session on AI-assisted software development, facilitated by Mr. Chamil Yahampath, Mr. Tharuka Fernando, and Mr. Udavith Reshanjana. Using Antigravity as the primary platform, participants explored AI-dependent, engineering-aware, and engineering-led development approaches through hands-on activities, highlighting how AI can enhance productivity, problem-solving, and software quality while complementing engineering expertise and human judgment.

The Department of Industrial Management is one of the very first departments in the Science faculty which was established with the aim of providing education, research, and training in the field of Industrial Management to mould science students into professionals who are well-versed in both Management and IT streams.
The Department of Industrial Management offers two Bachelor degree programs: Bachelor of Science Honours in Management and Information Technology (MIT), and Information Technology (IT). However, passing all the IT modules in the first year is a prerequisite for pursuing the Bachelor's degree in IT. The students can either opt to get a general degree after completing three years, or complete four years to get an honors degree.
Students who have successfully completed their A/Ls in the Science stream and achieved a minimum grade of "C" in one of the following subjects: Higher Mathematics, Combined Mathematics, Mathematics, or Physics are eligible to apply.
The Department of Industrial Management offers three Master degree programs. The Master of Information Technology programme is designed for graduates desiring to enhance their competencies when pursuing a career in Information Technology and for those graduates in other functional areas desiring to learn Information Technology to enhance their ability to provide effective and efficient solutions to their stakeholders. The Master of Data Analytics programme is designed for graduates desiring to enhance their competencies in data analytics concepts, tools, and technologies for delivering data-driven solutions to diverse business problems in the industry and society.

Overall, the department's strong academic foundation equips students for success in various industries.
