Researchers from the University of Kelaniya presented two impactful studies at the International Conference on Advances in ICT for Emerging Regions (ICTer) 2025, held at Marino Beach Hotel, Colombo. The first study, “Early Detection and Severity Assessment of Dysgraphia in Sinhala-Speaking Children Using a Multi-Modal Machine Learning Approach,” introduced Sri Lanka’s first AI-based framework to identify and assess dysgraphia in Sinhala-speaking children, aiming to support early screening and child well-being. The research was conducted by Ms. Sandushi Weraduwa, Mr. Dinesh Asanka, Dr. Thilini Mahanama, and Dr. Swarna Wijeathunge. The second study, “Identifying Three-Band Hyperspectral Composites That Outperform RGB for Floating Plastic Detection,” focused on improving environmental monitoring through advanced hyperspectral imaging. The research was carried out by Mr. Savindu Harith, Dr. Chathura Rajapakse, Dr. Thilini Mahanama, Mr. Dinesh Asanka, and collaborators from the University of Melbourne. These presentations highlight the University’s growing research excellence and commitment to innovation through local and international collaborations.

The Department of Industrial Management successfully inaugurated the 2025 intake of the Master of Science in Management and Information Technology program on November 1, 2025, at the department auditorium. The ceremony marked the beginning of an inspiring academic journey for the new cohort, fostering innovation, leadership, and interdisciplinary learning. Authentic Hindu meals added flavour and warmth to the evening, enhancing the festive experience for everyone present. The Department of Industrial Management hosted “Geethathma” (The Soul of Song), graced by the renowned lyricist Bandula Nanayakkarawasam, whose timeless creations have touched generations of Sri Lankans. Joined by his daughter Ms. Tharuvii Nanayakkarawasam, a valued member of the department, the event brought together staff and students in a heartfelt celebration of music and meaning. With melodies that reflected life’s emotions, the evening resonated with warmth, creativity, and inspiration marking a memorable moment in the department’s 2025 calendar.

The Department of Industrial Management proudly celebrated the success of People Power 360°, an experiential event organized by Level 2 undergraduates under the course Human Resource Management and Leadership Communication. The event bridged theory and practice through leadership dialogues, press simulations, HR challenges, and team-based activities, showcasing the creativity, teamwork, and strategic thinking of our students. A special note of appreciation goes to Dr.Prabhashini Wijewantha, whose guidance and inspiration shaped this impactful learning experience.

The Department of Industrial Management proudly launched Celsius Orbit, Sri Lanka’s first AI-driven event ecosystem, developed by Level 4 undergraduates. The platform connects event organizers, participants, and vendors through intelligent digital tools for event creation, promotion, and analytics. The launch ceremony, graced by academics, industry representatives, and the founders of Celsius IT Solutions, celebrated student-driven innovation and entrepreneurship at DIM.
